Three classes of regular memberships in the Association of Applied Geochemists are available and all three receive the journal GEOCHEMISTRY: Exploration, Environment, Analysis (6 issues/year) and the EXPLORE newsletter (4 issues/year) as part of their membership. A fourth membership type is available to senior members. Details about each type are provided below.

Of AAG’s current membership, approximately 70% come from three countries (Canada 26%, Australia 25% and the USA 18%), yet developing countries (as defined by the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee, DAC) account for only eight AAG memberships, less than 2% of the total membership. In order to support applied geochemists in developing countries, AAG offers subsidised membership to those who fulfil certain criteria. Subsidised membership includes provision of EXPLORE, Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis (GEEA), and ELEMENTS. Developing countries are those shown in this list (pdf), which is drawn from a compilation by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC) (www.oecd.org). To be eligible for election as a Subsidized Member, a candidate from a developing country must:
Discounted membership is not available to applied geochemistry practitioners who practice in developing countries, but originate from elsewhere. Recipients from developing countries who receive discounted AAG memberships must apply every two years for membership renewal at the subsidised rate. A maximum of 10 subsidised memberships will be supported each year. AAG members who would like to sponsor any new member to the association at the full membership of $US 100 are asked to contact the Chairman of the Admissions Committee (below). How to apply for subsidised membership: Email Nigel Radford (Chairman, AAG Admissions Committee; nigel.radford@newmont.com) and include your name, address and contact details (email), as well as your current employment conditions, and the name and contact details of someone in your organisation who can verify you as a practitioner of applied geochemistry. This information will be presented to AAG Council for ratification. |
